BASIC INSTINCT director Paul Verhoeven is no stranger to the erotic. Deadline.com reports the helmer is lining up ETERNAL, a FATAL ATTRACTION-like thriller featuring a succubus, as his next project. David Loughery penned the script for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Richard D’Ovidio will rewrite.

The story follows an on-the-wagon married man who saves a woman from jumping off a bridge, following which they end up in bed. When he arrives home, his wife and a PI confront him with pictures, but they don't show the affair, only him drinking in bed. With him beginning to doubt his sanity, he discovers that his mistress is really a succubus out for his soul.

Sidney Kimmel, Greene Street Films' John Penotti, A Bigger Boat’s Peter Block and Sparkler Entertainment’s Charles Segars are the producers.

The film should go into production summer 2011.
