I recently bought a book called Stop Staring: Facial Modeling and Animation Done Right. It is a great book for anyone wanting to do lip synch and facial animation. The book is written for Maya, but the technique would work in any software package.
Anyway, I did an early exercise from the book using a simple box for a face. You can view the .avi movie file (3.5MB) by clicking on the image below:
