Feh! Just bug fixes, improvements for programmers and motion designers. I wish there was more for the animator in there. Maybe next version now that they seem to have taken care of a good number of the bugs and interface problems. Although it definitely seems like they're working more towards the motion graphics and game designers than animation concerns.

I did appreciate his insight on real time Blends and Filters being the new "skip intro". I'm constantly amused at how many web developers don't bother testing their creations on a slower computer (let alone a dial up connection) than the newer computers many of them work on.

I am still on the fence about this edition. I footed the bill for MX04, and I am not using it. Someone is going to have to really give me the hard sell. And it didn't used to be that way. I used to preorder every edition. But I really don't want to force my viewers to have to download a new player. Shoot most banners are done in Flash 5 because it has market usage, without forcing folks to download a new player.

Yeah, I'm wondering what the new player is going to do to things. Most of the companies I work at use Linux and getting things updated by the system admins so you can watch Flash content doesn't typically make it to the top of their lists. It was inevitable, I guess.

I'm not too thrilled on the price either. Even the upgrade price starts at about where I'd think the full price should be.

Here's another review http://weblogs.macromedia.com/md/archives/2005/08/the_lesser-know.cfm

Looks like they might have fixed a bunch of things that bothered me with 2004. For me, it depends if work upgrades to F8. I hate working on one version at work and a different one at home. If I do get it, I'll buy the upgrade.

I'm glad they're adding in Normal mode again for scripting. I'd like to be able to add buttons and such to animations without having to teach myself (poorly I might add) another scripting language.

Could someone describe the differences between MX 2004 and earlier versions of undo? I haven't used Flash since version 4 and since I've only been using MX 2004 for the past month or so, I don't get the difference between object and document undo.

It used to be in earlier editions that you could click on mc, or nested mc and undo to your hearts content, or whatever you set your preferences at, but with MX04, that was no longer true.

Ah, now I get it. It was a change in work flow for many people. I can see advantages and disadvantages to each type. It's nice that they let you choose now.

Thanks for the link, Phacker.

Being able to draw points with ActionScript will be cool for tech demos and games, but I'm not emotionally prepared yet for the onslaught of sleepwalking mindless drones producing the 'Photoshop strokes' of the Flash world lol

I have been trying to find some details on Flash 8 lip sync feature. ToonBoom gave an excellent demo of their lip sync feature and I wont to compare the two.

I wasn't aware there was a lip sync feature built into 8, but there was an extension available for MX2004.

Ok, than is an answer to what I have been trying to find out. I was not saying that Flash 8 had lip sync, I was trying to find out if it had lip sync. So I could, and probably will, get ToonBoom. There is software that is just for lip sync, so I could get that too.

It looks like I will not be getting Flash 8 or ToonBoom. I can use my current programs to produce swf and then optimize them for the web.
