New to the group

Hi! My name is Catherine, and I am entirely new to the forum. I recently graduated from college with a degree in a field unrelated to animation. However, I took several animation courses as electives, and I've always had a talent for art (My art instructors were always angry with me for not changing majors :)
I've always kept my hand in art and animation, and I'm now interested in pursuing the field more seriously. There are several schools in my area that teach animation (specifically computer animation). There's one school that offers a certificate program -- the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts about certificate programs -- as opposed to a BFA or BS.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to AWN Catherine. What field did you opt for? Just curious. I can't help you with your question. I am web freelancer so my knowledge in that area is limited.

Be sure to look thru the sticky thread "Art and Animation Schools", there might be some good information there.

Do you have a web site with your work?

AnimationMentor.com offers a "certified diploma" (registered with the state of CA). I don't know much about particulars, but that's not a Bachelor's and certainly not as time-consuming. A LOT of the students there have situations where they've already finished college or at least the gen-ed classes so in effect they aren't missing out on that experience.

--"What field did you opt for?"--

I actually majored in communication/journalism. I enjoyed the field, but I'm really drawn to animation.

I don't have a web site right now ... but I'm working on it! It consists of 2D art, and I'm considering enrolling in Animationmentors to learn 3D animation.

Thanks for the feedback!

Welcome

Hello Catherine,

Welcome to the forum...

Bottom line- it's your reel and portfolio that get you a job...has nothing to do with where you went to school or whether you have a degree or not.

Folks just want to see the goods....

Thanks,
