I've decided to sponsor an Animation Co-op chapter for the Washington, DC Metro area. In order for the chapter to launch, we need at least 10 people from the area to join the Animation Co-op. Read the full Mission Statement to learn the benefits of membership, but here's a segment taken from the website:
The Co-op serves the animation community by promoting independent production, distribution and education. By exchanging ideas, screening works in progress, providing network venues and maintaining a database of projects and resources, we provide opportunities for our fellow artists and filmmakers to grow and thrive in one of the least supported, most demanding but ultimately most gratifying forms of independent expression.
If you're interested, read the Membership Agreement and fill out the Registration Form. You only need to complete the required section and include "Washington D.C. Metro Area" in the "City" field.
If you sign up, make a post in this thread! :D

Hey! I've been pretty busy and haven't been around lately. Glad to see someone else signed up. Be sure to send me your email address so that I can keep you updated.
We're having our first meeting Saturday, February 23 in Fairfax, VA. We're going to network with other co-op members and learn about possible opportunities with Studio Kinate, an emerging animation studio in Fairfax, VA.
Hope to see you there!

That's not a problem. As a matter of fact, I can recommend a musician: http://www.architectofsound.com/.

If I ever finish any of the various shorts I'm working on, viewing and critiquing sessions would be nice. I'm more a hobbyist than a professional (I'm a graphic designer, so there is some crossover), so I'm not really sure what the local community is like. I'm in the Baltimore area, btw.
I actually dont know. o_O I just joined it because it's awesome to have an animation group in Maryland. :o

That's good to know as viewing and critiquing sessions are something that I had in mind. I think that work-in-progress screenings would be very beneficial for everyone involved. And being in Baltimore shouldn't be a problem. I should specify that "DC Metro Area" is open to DC, MD, and VA.

That's OK. I think the animation community is rather large in our area, but we're too dispersed. I'm hoping that the DC Anim Co-op chapter will grow into something that will help us all to feel a bit more connected.
There are also two other animation groups that I know of in our area. The Animators Roundtable that's sponsored by WIFV-DC. They have monthly meetings that cover a variety of animation topics, and typically meet in VA or DC. The other group is DC-SIGGRAPH that meets in VA.

Right.
I'm a lot closer to DC than I am to Norfolk, VA, so I'd rather join a DC chapter.
Along with viewing and critiques like grumbleboy, I'd like some producing connections and some opportunities to life draw with others beyond community college level and get some feedback.
Hey, Sharvonique, you could always send a shout out on Linked In to attract some animators and artists in the area.
