What I'm looking for now is a way to perform simple pencil tests to see my drawings in sequence -- animate. First of all, I admit I'm an unseasoned student with very little materials, but I draw every day, especially hardcore life drawing. I need to test out my animations in something more accurate than in a rudimentary flipbook.
Should I go the digital route and scan everything into the computer, or somehow capture images from a webcam or camcorder and assemble them in something like MonkeyJam? I downloaded a demo of Plastic Animation Paper which looks like a fantastic, no-hassle way of doing it other than the major expense required to purchase a Wacom tablet. Any advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks.

Hello.
For pencil tests (and finals) you might take a look at Flipbook by Digicel,Inc.
It is the easiest software- you can use a mini-DV camera for pencil tests...heck, I have even used a webcam to do quick tests.
You can scan your finished drawings in and it is so simple...
You can use paper or a wacom tablet or a tablet PC....works on MACs, too.
A couple of weeks ago I scanned and colored about 45 seconds of animation (one character- up to three levels) in parts of two days - maybe 8 hours total. This was fully animated!!!
Check it out...
Thanks.

Thanks for your replies!
Larry L: I did check out Flipbook and it has amazing capabilities. You know, you're even featured on their website! I'd love to buy their $100 version but I have a feeling that free software can do the job for me right now and I can't afford Flipbook Studio. Eventually I'll save up and buy one. Do you have to attatch a peg bar to the scanner? How big does the scanner have to be?

I have Windows Movie Maker; my brother uses it daily but I didn't think it was suitable for making animations. I'm not interested in motion capture, but can I still use a webcam to transfer my drawings to the computer? Thanks again for the advice!
