i want to be an animator! do i?

Hello all you animators out there :)

so after neglecting my dream of becoming an animator 10 years ago and wasting my time on other distracting issues (such as philosophy and err youtube, which at least got me to find the meaning of life which is to be an animator and stop wasting time on useless cat videos) i'm back to square one now at the age of 33(!)

let me ask you.. what is goin on with the industry these days? is it still a good idea to make this a profession? my main thought is on the future of this profession how is it being an animator in an interconnected online global community with all the related issues like competition, advance tools in software which eliminate the use of workforce and on the contrary the rise of video game industry that created alot of jobs or the ability to worl from home and such....

so we can start a discussion on the subject or maybe just refer me to an earlier one.... any tips will be greatly appreciated! :)

I am not in the industry but this is what I have pulled from these threads.

Do you draw now or is this something you also need to learn about?
If you are an active artist then start working on the basic of animation.
Try producing a few second of animation every week for a few months.
Once you start showing some competence in animation then a segue(or segway :)) into working in the industry.

yeah sorry i forgot to mention i have some experience in animation and illustration... you can check my work here omern.weebly.com

i'm just wondering whats the future of the industry in the next 5 years with all the economy problems and the globalization of competition

You have some really nice work there.
