Tools and Subtools

Actually I'm using 3D coat, not zbrush so its 'vox tree objects' not subtools.  But subtool sounds better.

I'm going to do some  superhero animating.  I've sculpted my model's uniform and retopologized it.  The uniform has a belt and some body thrusters and gauntlets  and other hard surface stuff that's going to have a bit of fine detail.  It's going to have boots and a jet pack as subtools that'll be rigged with the model in Daz and then Motionbuilder for the final rig.  I include this info because Motionbuilder supposedly is awesome at attaching objects to the mesh though I've never tried that before.

The quesiton is, should I make subtools or make everything as a single uniform mesh.  I can make multiple UV maps for the two big high detal areas.  But that creates some issues with seams.  I could make a 4k map which would solve all my problems except it'll chunk up the animation during renders of the closeups where the fine details must be seen. (I'll have lower res textures for noncloseups.)  Or I could make subtools and pray the rigging holds everything perfectly during all the crazy poses and motion I plan to give them.

Or there might be something I didn't think of.

What would you do?
