Every Thursday, Chris Robinson takes a look at films from animation’s past. Today's Piet Kroon's T.R.A.N.S.I.T (1998).
This beautifully designed 1998 work from Piet Kroon (Osmosis Jones) takes a slight twist by telling its story in reverse. The film serves up an early twentieth century espionage melodrama as a puzzle for the audience to unravel. The design of the film (by Gill Bradley) evokes the art deco style of the 1920s, and the story is complimented by a rich score courtesy of Julian Nott. It’s a bit too slick and commercial for my tastes, but hey, it’s still stands a delicious and innovative work.
