Since I live in Utah where Sundance is held each January, I entered the 30 second commercial contest to promote filming television and movies in Utah. The commercials are shown during Sundance 66 times to all the influencial Hollywood types that come up for the event.
I've created an animated commercial and will find out on December 10th if it made the cut.

I came up with the idea of doing outakes, but it was Andy Bowyer who came up with the actual concept, did all of the voices and sound design.

Let me know what you think!

Guys--

I wanted to pop in and follow up on this one: the Utah Film Commission judged all the entries for the Sundance commercial contest and out of around 120 entries, there were 12 Honorable Mentions, and 8 "top prize" winners.

I want to offer congratulations to my fabulous partner in crime Ryan Simmons for our latest victory: Yes, we were one of the 8.

Another small step for us, another giant leap for the do-it-yourself animation world. ;)

YAHOOOOO!
I actually really like the term: "do-it-yourself animation"! That's what it feels like to when I'm down in the basement working away.

I"m very excited!

My dad is an artist and animator, and was already working in Feature Animation and helped get me in when I was 21. That was at Turner Feature Animation. AFter that I went to Warner Bros. and then to Dreamworks and then learned Flash!

I don't do the voices, but Andy does, I'm assuming that's what you meant. And yes, he is an indespensible talent that I am very fortunate to have available to me!

I loved lots of things about it--you could take that character a few places. Did you use Flash for it? Composition, character reactions, use of color, use of shadow (espeically on the character). In short, a bunch of stuff I'd like to learn to do better myself.

Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for the compliments!
I definitely did NOT learn Flash overnight. I've been at it for 4 and a half years. The last three years I've used nothing but a wacom tablet to create all the art.

As for the films I've worked on, they are: 'Cat's Don't Dance', "Quest for Camelot", "The Iron Giant", "The Road to ElDorado", and "Spirit, STallion of the cimmaron".
