I know its a bit early, but I'd just like to know what everyone thinks of the theatrical animation coming in 2005.
The first is Dreamwork's new project, which I forgot the name of, but it involves zoo animals being shipped to Madagascar.
Then there is Pixar's newest film, Cars. A lot of my friends are shaking are heads in embaressment that Pixar would make a film like this.
Then, we have Fox's newest animation, Robots, which looks just as promising as Ice Age was.
Finally, we have Disney's Chicken Little, based on the childrens book about the sky falling.
So, how does everyone feel about these upcoming titles?
Ok. Your entitled to your opinion :) I personally like them all equally.
well, i'm glad you all seem to be looking forward to "Madagascar". certainly makes me a bit happier anyways.

How about (if it gets released in your respective countries) watching a Spanish-Portuguese production called "Midsummer Dream"... http://www.midsummerdream.com/ ?

I have a friend that worked at Pixar and he said that the Cars Teaser really doesn't do the movie justice at all. I hope so because I was really turned off by it.
For me Madagascar is the first PDI movie that I'm actually looking forward to seeing. None of their other trailers have made me want to see their movies. The animal character designs look amazing, maybe I'm biased since my boss designed them :D
Cars has been pushed back to 2006. Don't really know what to think after seeing the preview. Looks very bright.
Robots looks interesting. The rendering that they've come up with, radiosity I think it's called, looks amazing. As for the story, I'm not too sure. I always think using Robin Williams is a comedy cop out so the writers don't have to write anything funny. I do like the look of it.
Some of the work I've seen for Chicken Little looks amazing. Who knows it could be good. It looks better than Reppunsle(?) Unbraided though.
Is that all that's coming out this year? I'm sure there will be a few other TV movies too, like Pokemon 82 and stuff like that, but wow, it looks alittle sparce this year.

Well, it is too early to say all the animated films that will be in theaters this year. This is just a rough look at what we know is coming.
I was going to state the limited release of the 3D anime Appleseed, but I was looking at animation this year that would be elligible for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and since Appleseed was released in Japan last year, I decided not to mention it.
All CG this year (from what I've seen here). Not that I have anything against CG I just hope there'll be some 2D ones out too other than Pokemon. Who knows, maybe we'll be suprised...
Robin Williams had absurdly brilliant stand-up when I was a little kid. Now he's got god-awful stand-up (This is all in my tastes, obviously not hard facts). Somehow, again speaking of my tastes, his bits in the trailers of Robots are hilarious. Who's to be credited? Is the writing funny, the visual inventiveness, is it Robin in a savant moment returning to hilarity?
Does he just like being animated? Is it a collaborative effort embracing the medium?
I'm really looking forward to the new Miyazaki http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/howl/ his stuff is always amazing. If that comes out, 2005 could be a great year for animation.

Ah, yes, another animation I neglected to mention for disqualification from next year's Oscars.
Hopefully, it will make a theatrical appearence this year, if not on DVD.
Interesting thing to me about the "Chicken Little" preview is it's the first Disney movie that I couldn't tell was a Disney movie and that didn't say it was a Disney movie. When I was growing up, Disney animated features were called "Disney Classics" before they were released, had numbers ("Disney's all-new, thirty-first animated classic, 'Beauty and the Beast'!") and the previews generally included a synopsis/montage of the company's entire animation history. Not saying that's the way it has to be now, but it seems to me like it's almost like they don't want you to know it's Disney (or they want you to assume it's Pixar...)

P.S. Anyone remember that old cartoon short Disney did of "Chicken Little" where Foxy Loxy uses psychology to manipulate the chickens into thinking the sky is falling and - shockingly! - actually winds up eating them in the end?!

In terms of design, Madagascar really look interesting. It's good to see they're trying to get away from the Toy Story look. Now that they've figured out how to animate well in 3D, it's time they pushed the art and design aspect further in my opinion. I'm a little opposed to the fact that yet another handful of famous actors gets to graft their screen personalities on animals, though, but oh well, nothing a good script couldn't save.
I'm not really interested in Robots, to tell the truth, and the trailer for Cars simply underwhelmed me. So far, A Bug's Life is my least favourite Pixar movie and I hope Cars won't change that. I really, really hate to say it but even Chicken Little piques my curiosity more than Cars. (-shudder-)
I'm definitely going to see Howl's Moving Castle! Anyone know anything about Tim Burton's Corpse Bride or Disney's Fraidy Cat?
Question to our Spanish members: I think Nocturna was released already but we never got so much as a trailer in Germany. I must see it, though - anyone got a DVD release date for me?
Oh ya, forgot about that. Hey, at least Miyazaki still likes pencils :D
I thought they did a fine job with "A Bugs Life".In my book Pixar has not released any let downs. I hope "Cars" is good. It didn't look too bad to me. Plus it's just the teaser trailer they've released and we haven't really gotten to see much about the story.
Oh ya, isn't John Lasseter directing this one? If he is he did a great job on his other features and shorts so why should this be any different?
Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Chcken Little (from what i've seen) doesn't really look all that great to me. Cars doesn't seem like what I expected it to be. the only animated films i really want to see are Madagascar and Robots because I too love the design and any movie with Ben Stiller in it must be funny. I might be wrong with cars though, last year when I heard about the Incredibles I didn't think I'd like it ( At the time i didn't know it was a Brad Bird film) but when i did see it i was blown away so who knows what greatness the year of animation 2005 will bring.
What would scooby do?
A Bug's Life isn't a bad movie, I just happen to like all of Pixar's other movies better.
