Welcome to Petty Torture Productions!

We currently create cartoon series concepts (with fully illustrated pitch bibles), comedy super shorts, and we write scripts for television and film. The work is primarily produced by the owner, David Perry, who does illustrations, animation, and writing.

Things of note:

- Series concepts like Space Pirates, Intelligent Life, and Mallory Bash.
- The "Scratch" manga and series concept.
- Animated shorts, including a music video for Professor Elemental's "Everything Stops for Tea."
- Doodle Grove, where doodles go to be free of context.

In my case I did a BA in

In my case I did a BA in illustration and graduated in 2006.I did have an old e mac that unfortunately died on me soon after. So I was left with no computer so I saved up the sixteen hundred pounds for a new OSX 10.9.5 and trust me with the cost of living in London it took me six years, only to find out all my programs were obsolete, so it took me another two years to save up the money for a new photoshop cs6 and for the last five months I've been teaching myself to use it. So now I'm finally ready to get some kind of career of the ground so any idears on how to start, especially now I've been out of the loop so long  as it would be greatly appreciated.

Getting Started

Well, I'm living in the American midwest, so I definitely understand the struggle of getting started in the entertainment industry.

There's really no quick or cheap way in, unless you're just absurdly talented and have a knack for networking. Speaking of networking, do it. All the time. I've not been to London, but I'd wager that networking is just as important there (and anywhere, really) as it is here. Networking gets you interviews and pitches. Skill gets you work. If you're serious about getting into the industry, work frequently and know your audience. Your audience isn't just the television viewers of your potential work, but the network you plan to work for. The biggest tip I've been given is to know what they want, know what they're looking for, and show that you are flexible enough to cater to their needs but talented enough to make it unique and engaging.

Do note, please, that I'm not an industry professional, and I cannot speak as though I know success. I'm still living in Indianapolis, still working on my creations, and still attending college. However, I network a lot, so I do have an idea of what works and what is desirable. It's important to be flexible and understanding. People want to work with people they like and people that know how to talk. You need to be collected, presentable, and yet still, you need to be fun. Have a good sense of humor, because if you've got a person laughing, you've got a person ready to work with you.

Your skill level is all on you, which is why I haven't said much about it. That's the "easy" part, for lack of better words. Keep working and keep studying others' work, and you'll get there. The rest is social character. Be good, be honest, be fun, be organized. Be real, because people in the entertainment industry can smell fake from a galaxy away. They work in fake, it's their job to make fake real.

More than anything else, be driven. Visibly driven. Helplessly driven. And if you're anything like me, homelessly driven.

Good luck to you!

Mallory Bash

Quick update:

The pitch bible for Mallory Bash is now complete and up on the website. It's a virtual pitch bible, so navigating it is just like navigating a website. If you're interested in checking it out, it's under the "Series Concepts" tab in the nav bar. Note, though, that the website (unfortunately) is not yet mobile friendly, so you'll have to view it on a desktop or laptop.

Here's a little teaser poster for the series concept:

Boy, it's been a while, yeah?

Boy, it's been a while, yeah? Well, I wanted to briefly give an update on Mallory Bash.

Now there is a web comic running for the series, in its second season. It can be found here:

It currently has over three hundred subscribers across several web comic host sites, and is growing every day. It currently holds the rank of 230 on Top Web Comics, and has been running for about nine months. I'd like to give you a few little screenshots from the series and a few promo images to get you interested. Take a peek!
