Motion capture plays a significant role in filmmaking today, from special effects films like LORD OF THE RINGS to animated films like POLAR EXPRESS. You may associate motion capture with wooden performances and painstaking cleanup; but successful characters like King Kong suggest a great future for animation and motion capture alike.
The May 30 membership meeting will feature a panel discussion moderated by executive board member Nathan Loofbourrow. Panelists confirmed include Jeff Light, character td supervisor at DreamWorks Animation (formerly motion capture supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic); Mariette Marinus, a character td at DreamWorks Animation (formerly character td at Protozoa, pioneers in digital puppetry); and others to be announced. The panel will discuss questions such as: How does motion capture work? What part does motion capture play in bringing the best animated performance to the screen?
The membership meeting is for members only (active or inactive). Non-members wishing to attend the panel discussion should contact Jeff Massie at (818) 766-7151 in advance of the meeting, which will take place at the Animation Guild, 4729 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood 91602.
