Screening Of The BFG (Big Friendly Giant)

Do you know where dreams come from? Take a trip into the dream world of a kid-lit master, with this delightful film adaptation of one of Roald Dahl's most fantastic stories. Little orphan Sophie awakens one night to find she's been kidnapped by a lumbering giant. But it turns out that he's The Big Friendly Giant, a rare, cucumber-eating variety, who visits children's windows each night to send them pleasant dreams. His other job is catching and bottling up the bad dreams--as well as preventing the not-so-friendly giants from gobbling up little children.

Sophie teams up with her large new friend on a rescue mission to save the kids and stop the nasty giants before all dreams become nightmares. The movie is a wonderful combination of artwork by the famed Cosgrove Hall studio and the extraordinary wit and imagination of Dahl. Your summer assignment is to read the family classic with your kids, and then come compare the differences with this rarely-screened adaptation, full of catchy songs, hungry giants and nocturnal adventure. No final essay required.
