ANIMAC: the International Annual Spanish Animation Show

ANIMAC: the International Annual Spanish Animation Show is devoted to promoting the art of animation. The five-year-old event is a joint venture between the School of Fine Arts of Lleida and the Lleida Culture Department. ANIMAC 2001 wants to celebrate the capability of animation to mix with many other artistic disciplines such as music, painting, photography, performances, digital arts, graphic design and others. The event includes film and video screenings, retrospectives and theme screenings.

ASIFA Hollywood, MPSC Local 839 Cartoonists' Union, Hollywood Heritage and WIA present this year's Evening of Remembrance, a remembrance of animation friends and colleagues who passed away in 2000. Refreshments begin at 6 pm with the event following at 7 pm. The ceremony will take place at the Hollywood Studio Museum.

Cinanima International Animated Film Festival

The 8th New York Digital Salon is an international juried exhibition of prints, sculptures, interactive installments, performances, animation, digital video and Internet art made with the computer. The jury will pick 85 entries from over 800 applicants to be showcased in the exhibit. After its run in New York, the exhibit plans to tour Europe and Asia. Previously, it has traveled to Milan, Italy; Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Valladolid and the Canary Islands, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal. The event will be kicked off with a reception on November 6 from 6 - 8 pm.

National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias Animation Art Auction

An animation art auction will be held to benefit the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias. The art was donated from the private collections of animators. Memorabilia from movie openings and personal awards have also been donated. Selections are from MULAN, HERCULES, SNOW WHITE, POCAHONTAS, TOY STORY, NICKELODEON, RUGRATS, FANTASIA/2000, DINOSAUR and more. The silent auction will be held as Klasky Csupo Studios near Sunset Blvd and Vine Streets. A catalog of the items will be available in early September and bids can be placed via phone, fax or mail.

"bit by bit" is an all digital visual exhibition of "on-screen" art that aspires to recognize, promote and reward the best digital work being produced around the world today. This juried gallery exhibition will be installed on large format monitors in the Main Gallery of the Business of Art Center. The exhibition has three categories: still, dynamic and interactive. Promoted by the University of Brighton, the festival features performances, film screenings, exhibitions and workshops for both adults and children. The festival tours to various locations around the U.K. including Birmingham, Bracknell, Ludlow, Oxford, Portsmouth, Walsall, Walton on Thames, Jersey and Kent. Brighton will also host a multi-media exhibition of U.K. animated pop promos and puppetry.

Three Zanders: Jack Zander and His Artistic Legacy

Northern Westchester Center for the Arts presents an exhibit of animator Jack Zander and his children's artwork, entitled "Three Zanders: Jack Zander and His Artistic Legacy." Zander's career as an animator spans six decades and won him worldwide acclaim. Jack has animated, produced and directed such classics as TOM AND JERRY. His daughter Maggie is an award-winning fine artist and illustrator. His son Peter is an internationally known advertising photographer. The exhibit includes films, stills, drawings and cels.
