2DLIB Launches Character Design Comeptition

2DLIB launches a character design competition for BAFTA-winning animator Tony White’s newest project, The Spirit of the Game

On the heels of a warm reception for the recently released DRAWN TOGETHER eBook, 2DLIB has launched a character design competition. 2DLB is asking members of the 2D community to create a specific character design for a short film project that will be produced over the next year. Entry is free and there are cash prizes.

As part of a greater traditionally-animated movie project, Spirit of the Game, BAFTA-winning animator Tony White is planning to create a short animated homage to the late, great sportsman, Sir Stanley Matthews -- to be released on the 100th anniversary of Stan's birth in February, 2015. The film will be an animated montage of hand-drawn images of Stan accompanied by original audio interviews and commentaries. The film will be approached somewhat after the style of Tony's British Academy Award-winning short, HOKUSAI ~ An Animated Sketchbook.

THE COMPETITION

Entry is FREE! Submit your character designs of Sir Stanley Matthews. The film will be eclectic in style so any character or design style will be considered -- as long as it is capable of being reasonably animated using traditional hand-drawn animation techniques. Tony is looking for a variety of designs to include in the project, so there is no limit to the varied approaches or number of submissions that can be entered by each individual.

As time is very short to produce a quality, traditionally animated, 3-5 minute short film by February 2015, the closing date for entries is set a midnight on Friday, February 28, 2014

There will be three categories of cash prizes for the competition:

Ist Prize:  $200
2nd Prize:  $100
3rd Place (3 to be awarded) $50
