2nd Annual Native American Animation Lab Open for Applications

Intensive multi-day workshop is designed to offer new opportunities for Native American writers, filmmakers and artists interested in breaking into animation; early entry deadline is October 9.

LA Skins Fest is an annual event that takes place every year as part of the City of Los Angeles Celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Supported by corporations, art foundations and the City of Los Angeles, the program provides a free event that offers new opportunities to Native American filmmakers. Every year, the event hosts the annual Native American Pitch Fest, Actors Panel, and dozens of screenings of new indigenous films.

In partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal, The LA Skins Fest is accepting applications for the 2nd Annual Native American Animation Lab. This is an intensive, multi-day virtual workshop taking place December 7–11 that provides creative development of a current project, meetings with corporate partners and pitching opportunities. It includes group discussions, one on one meetings, and extensive instruction on developing an animation project.

All participants chosen for the lab will workshop one animation project through one-on-one mentoring, group sessions and peer workshops. The program will conclude with an intensive pitching session for each participant. The overall goal is to create genuine career building connections within the animation industry.

This is an in-depth workshop for Native Americans who have a script, a treatment, animated film, an original comic book, or visual materials they want to develop into an animated television series or feature film.

“We are excited to open our applications for the groundbreaking Native American Animation Lab,” commented Barcid Foundation CEO (Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma), Ian Skorodin. “Our 2019 program was an incredible success and showed the great potential and talent within our community of artists. We intend to grow that opportunity and push our people to the forefront of entertainment.”

The Native American Animation Lab was created in accordance with the LA Skins Fest’s mission to improve media portrayals of Native Americans and to increase the number of Native Americans employed in all facets of the media industry.

The early deadline to apply is October 9, 2020; regular deadline is October 23, 2020; and late deadline November 6th, 2020. For more information and to submit please visit the LA Skins Fest website.
