Animated Feature ‘10 Lives’ Snags Chinese Distribution Deal

London-based production startup Taost Entertainment has acquired the Chinese distribution rights to upcoming 3DCG animated film from Original Force, directed by Chris Jenkins, premiering in North American theaters August 24.

That darn cat Beckett is headed to China! London-based production startup Taost Entertainment has acquired the Chinese distribution rights to upcoming animated film 10 Lives from Original Force, according to Deadline. Taost also plans to host a Web 3 platform for members to engage with its animation projects, and will launch a closed beta of the offering at the Annecy Animation Festival.

The star-studded voice cast for the Canadian 3DCG film includes former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, Sophie Okonedo (Slow Horses), Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls), Simone Ashley (Bridgerton), Mo Gilligan (The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan), Bill Nighy (Love Actually), and Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso).

10 Lives follows the pampered and selfish cat Beckett who takes for granted the lucky hand he has been dealt. However, when he carelessly loses his ninth life, he pleads to be allowed to return to his perfect life. His request is at first refused, but in a moment of exceptional empathy, the Gatekeeper allows him to return to Earth with a new set of lives. What he doesn't realize is that each of these new lives will see him return in different forms, each one teaching him a valuable and timely lesson. The journey turns Beckett from a self-absorbed pet to a self-sacrificing hero as he travels many different roads to find the very best version of himself.

The film is directed by Chris Jenkins, (Duck Duck Goose, Beauty and the Beast), produced by Guy Collins, Penney Finkelman Cox (Shrek, Snakes on a Plane), and Sean Feeney for 10 Lives Productions Ltd, with writing by Jenkins, Ken Cinnamon (Who’s the Boss?, Angie), and Finkelman Cox. L’Atelier Animation in Montreal serves as the animation studio.

10 Lives is set for an August 24 theatrical release.
