Apple is reportedly in talks for the rights to a new animated feature produced by Cartoon Saloon. The Ireland-based studio’s most recent feature was the Oscar-nominated ‘The Breadwinner.’
The report included no information on the feature in question, other than it has yet to begin to production and would not be released for at least a year.
Cartoon Saloon has produced the Oscar-nominated animated features The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and The Breadwinner.
The report says Apple may release the movie theatrically to qualify for Oscars. It is negotiating rights for the U.S. and other territories.
Apple’s entrance into the entertainment world has so far focused on television, with the tech company hiring TV execs and commissioning series for its Worldwide Video service. It’s expected to launch next year.
Cartoon Saloon’s next animated feature is Wolfwalkers, which its website says will be directed by company co-founder Tomm Moore and will begin production later this year.
