Much like Disney's LONE RANGER and Legendary Pictures' PARADISE LOST, ARTHUR & LANCELOT is in trouble of shutting down over a ballooning budget, reports Deadline.com. Warner Bros. paid $2 million for David Dobkin's script last summer and intended to make the film for $90 million, but now the budget is getting closer to $130 million. With the modern-set take on the Knights of the Round Table tale casting unproven leads Kit Harington (TV's GAME OF THRONES) and Joel Kinnaman (TV's THE KILLING) as Arthur and Lancelot, respectively, the growing budget has become a great concern to the studio who has offered Dobkin a chance to take the project elsewhere.
Before moving ahead with this King Arthur tale, the studio had flirted with an EXCALIBUR remake directed by Bryan Singer and a version directed by SHERLOCK HOLMES' Guy Ritchie and written by TRAINSPOTTING scribe John Hodge.
