The vaguely worded Marvel announcement states the sequel will ‘continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda, and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.’
Wakanda lives. After the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, many wondered how the franchise could continue. Would T’Challa be replaced, or would another worthy warrior take up the mantle? Should the sequel even go forward at all? Thankfully, director and writer Ryan Coogler reshaped the script to honor the beloved hero and give a hopeful future to Wakanda. Now, an official synopsis for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been released by Marvel.
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, who was behind Black Panther, the film will be released on July 8, 2022.”
While the synopsis remains vague, it may hint that the Black Panther role will not be the focus, but rather the glory and beauty of Wakanda itself. If another hero does rise, Marvel has not yet revealed who that will be, although speculation points to T-Challa’s sister Shuri. Coogler is also set to develop a Wakanda-based Black Panther spin-off series in addition to the film sequel.
