Blue-Zoo Bringing ‘Digby Dragon’ to BLE

Preschool series produced by Fizzy Productions and airing on Nick Jr. in the U.K. to make its international licensing program debut at Brand Licensing Europe.

London -- Multi BAFTA-winning animation production company Blue-Zoo has announced that the chart-topping children’s animation, Digby Dragon, will make its licensing program debut at Brand Licensing Europe (BLE) 2016. Blue-Zoo will introduce adorable Digby Dragon, produced by Fizzy Productions, and his friends to international licensees, while Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products will manage licensing in the U.K.

The series launched in July 2016 on Nick Jr. (U.K.) as the top weekday premiere of all time for live viewing and was the top weekday show on Nick Jr. for that month. Blue-Zoo will celebrate the program’s success with a charming full-size character Digby at BLE. Aardman’s Rights and Brand Development international distribution division, showing its global appeal, have already sold the animation aimed at preschoolers to over 15 territories.

The CGI animation is a lovable action-packed comedy series, which follows Digby, an adventurous young dragon who lives in Applecross Wood with his best friends Grumpy Goblin, Fizzy the fairy and Chips the squirrel. Digby Dragon’s beautiful styling has been created locally at Blue-Zoo’s London studio. Digby is an original show, based on illustrations from Sally Hunter, better known as the creator of Humphrey’s Corner.

“Nickelodeon is delighted but not surprised at the hugely successful launch of Digby,” said James Newton, VP Programming, Nickelodeon U.K. & Ireland. “The lovable characters’ thirst for adventure often gets them into strange situations, which is proving popular with our audience. Digby is a show full of laughs, thrills and, at its core, the display of true friendship.”

“The beyond talented team at Blue-Zoo have breathed life, joy, zest and humor into my characters, and beauty into their surroundings in Applecross Woods,” added Sally Hunter, creator of Digby Dragon. “I couldn’t be prouder of the animation, I have always believed that children would fall madly in love with Digby Dragon and his pals, jU.S.t like I did, so it is very fulfilling to see the reaction. I couldn’t be more proud.”

“This stylish animation is a mU.S.t-see property, which will go far. The show has already debuted with record figures and gauged interest from broadcasters all around the world. BLE is the perfect event to showcase the series and we’re excited to see how we can develop it,” said Adam Shaw, Series Producer and Director. “The team have put everything into making Digby Dragon a show like no other, using new technology to bring a level of quality not seen in pre-school series animation and a creative freedom that has unleashed fantastical stories with such vibrantly animated characters.”

Digby Dragon is currently available on Nick Jr. in the U.K. and will be rolled out across the following territories in the next six months; Nick Jr. in the U.S., Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, MBC3 across MENA, Tele Quebec in Canada, ZDF in Germany, MTVA in Hungary, Canal Panda in Portugal and SVT in Sweden.

Blue-Zoo is renowned for developing, creating and producing stylish animations, sold across the globe including Alphablocks, Q Pootle 5, Olive the Ostrich, Go Jetters and Miffy.
