Box Office: 'Fast 6' No. 1 with $300M

Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 tops the Memorial Day box office, while Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios’ Epic places fourth with a $42.6 million opening.

Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 topped the Memorial Day box office with $120 million for a worldwide total of $317 million -- a franchise best and the biggest debut of all time for Universal. Overseas, the action feature has taken in $197 million.

Hangover III, from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, grossed $51.2 million for the four-day holiday weekend, a lukewarm showing in comparison to the $135 million earned by The Hangover Part II in 2011.

Paramount and Skydance's Star Trek Into Darkness enjoyed an impressive hold in its second weekend, grossing $47 million for the four-day holiday to place third. The J.J. Abrams-directed sequel has now grossed $155.8 million domestically and $102.1 million internationally for a worldwide total of $257.9 million.

Epic, from Fox Animation Studios and Blue Sky Studios, placed fourth with a $42.6 million opening. Featuring a female heroine, the 3D feature took in $23.1 million overseas for an international take of $44 million and worldwide total of $86.6 million.

Disney and Marvel's Iron Man 3 came in fifth place with four-day earnings of $24.4 million. The tentpole feature has now earned $1.15 billion worldwide to become the number five grossing film of all time.

In sixth place, Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures, jumped the $200 million mark at the worldwide box office, earning $117.7 million domestically and $85.6 million internationally for a total $202.9 million.

Roadside Attractions’ Mud came in seventh, bringing in $2.4 million for a total of $15 million, the top showing ever for the independent distributor.

Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.' 42 came in eighth place, grossing $1.9 million for a North American total of $91.1 million.

DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods came in ninth place, adding $1.2 million for a total of $179.2 million.

Rounding out the list at number 10, Universal’s Oblivion brought in $840,000 million for a total of $87.3 million.
