Press Release from IMAX Corporation
TORONTO, Sep 20, 2011 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- IMAX Corporation (TSX:IMX) (NYSE:IMAX) and Cineplex Entertainment (TSX:CGX) today announced an agreement to install two new digital IMAX theatre systems, to be located in London, Ontario, at SilverCity London Cinemas, and in Victoria, British Columbia, at SilverCity Victoria Cinemas. Both theatres are slated to open in December 2011. This agreement follows an earlier deal between the two companies for three new IMAX theatres, announced in May 2011, and brings Cineplex's total commitment to 14 IMAX theatres to be in operation by year-end 2011.
"Our IMAX theatres have always been very well received by our theatre guests," said Ellis Jacob, President and CEO, Cineplex Entertainment. "We are pleased to extend the premium IMAX Experience(R) to Cineplex guests in London and Victoria. Now these communities can enjoy Hollywood movies when presented in the IMAX format the same day they are released in other traditional formats."
"Our global brand, unsurpassed technology and exciting film slate translate into box office results for our exhibitors," said Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX Corporation. "We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Cineplex, Canada's largest exhibitor."
IMAX's digital projection system delivers The IMAX Experience and helps drive profitability for studios, exhibitors and IMAX theatres by eliminating the need for film prints, increasing program flexibility and ultimately increasing the number of movies shown on IMAX screens. The system can run both IMAX and IMAX(R) 3D presentations.
