Dan Trachtenberg to Direct New ‘Predator’ Film ‘Badlands’

The ‘Prey’ filmmaker returns to the sci-fi franchise for the next cinematic installment, set sometime in the future, which will star a female lead; the project begins production in July.

Dan Trachtenberg, the filmmaker behind 20th Century Studios’ Prey, will return to the franchise for a new Predator installment, according to THR. As with Prey, Trachtenberg wrote the story for the upcoming film with Patrick Aison, also penned the screenplay.

The project is titled Badlands, although further details are firmly under wraps. We do know it will be set sometime in the future and will star a female lead. The film will not serve as a sequel to Prey, which was set in 1719 and followed a badass Comanche girl in her struggle to survive against the infamous otherworldly trophy hunter.

Multiple other projects in the Predator franchise are also reportedly in the works with Trachtenberg, although further details have not been released.

Badlands will begin production in July.
