DC has announced three new comic book series coming this December: “Batman: Dark Patterns,” “Metamorpho: The Element Man,” and “Two-Face.”
“Batman: Dark Patterns,” a 12-issue comic book series by creators Dan Watters and Hayden Sherman, is set during the early years of Batman’s career. The comic delves into four mysterious cases as he attempts to cement his place as Gotham City’s protector while the city itself fights back against him.
“I love the strangeness of Batman,” said Watters. “A man dressed as a huge, gothic bat, solving crimes in a hostile city of black magicians, mad scientists, and superstitious, cowardly criminals. I’ve always wanted to write a series of mystery stories that would home in on that aspect of the character—a dweller in the shadows of Gotham’s towering, delipidated spires. After watching The Batman, this desire was reaffirmed. ‘Batman: Dark Patterns’ explores the pulpiest part of the Dark Knight's rich history and gives readers an entirely new perspective on the early years of DC’s Dark Detective.”
“Batman: Dark Patterns” #1, written by Watters, with art by Sherman, color by Tríona Farrell and lettering by Frank Cvetkovic, will publish on December 11 with covers by Sherman and a variant cover by Stevan Subic.
“Metamorpho: The Element Man,” by creators Al Ewing and Steve Lieber, follows “that fab freak” who can change himself into any element in the human body.
“This is 100% fun comics, delivered with total confidence, visceral joy and absolutely no winking to the camera,” said Ewing about the new series. “It's a love letter to Bob Haney, Ramona Fradon and the spirit of superheroes at their wildest and weirdest—we're aiming to catch the essential fab-freakiness of Metamorpho like lightning in a bottle and get groovy with it in our own special way.”
"It's such a joy to work on this book with these collaborators,” added Lieber. “Al Ewing's scripts are an absolute delight, and Lee Loughridge's color is impeccable. And as a long-time fan of Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon, I can't believe I get to follow in their footsteps."
In the comic series, Rex Mason, alias Metamorpho must survive a hand-picked assassin who can match him change for change... and that's just the first issue!
“Metamorpho: The Element Man” #1 is written by Ewing with interior art and main cover by Lieber, colors by Lee Loughridge and lettering Ferran Delgado. The issue will publish on December 25 with variant covers by Erica Henderson, Ian Bertram and Steve Beach.
Finally, “Two-Face,” a new limited comic book series by creators Christian Ward and Fábio Veras, is the first series for Gotham City’s notorious Super-Villain (and sometimes good guy) Harvey Dent. In the tradition of recently completed and villain-focused comic book series “The Penguin,” DC’s new “All In” series “Two-Face” explores the good and bad sides of Harvey Dent as two characters operating and living in the same body.
“After falling in love with writing the beautiful, complicate, Harvey in ‘Batman: City of Madness,’” said Ward, “I couldn't be more excited to be, or prouder, to be writing Two-Face's very first solo series! Two-Face is without any hesitation not just my favorite Batman villain but my favorite character in all of Gotham, and I'm thrilled to be taking him, together with superstar artist in the making Fábio Veras and the legends that are colorist Ivan Plascencia and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, to some wild places you might not be expecting. The first of which takes Harvey Dent back to the courtroom.”
After years of internal conflict, both halves of Harvey Dent have reached an uneasy peace. In DC’s new “Two-Face” series, Harvey uses his skills as an attorney to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weirdest and most dangerous criminals, starting with Victor Zsasz. When Zsasz is accused of murdering a fellow member of Gotham’s underworld contingent, who better to prove a criminal’s innocence than someone who’s been on both sides of the law?
“Two-Face” #1 is written by Christian Ward, with art by Fábio Veras, colors by Ivan Plascencia and lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The issue will publish on December 4 with a main cover by Baldemar Rivas and variant covers by Ward, Chris Samnee, and Leonardo Romero.
