When audiences head to theaters on June 20 to see Warner Bros. feature GET SMART, they will not see the work of Digit. That's because the premier digital studio led by Creative Director/Founder Elad Offer (and known in the feature realm as Moneyshots) was hired to produce 100 invisible vfx shots.
Digit was awarded the project by Chuck Roven at Mosaic Media Group with whom Digit previously collaborated on IDLEWILD and LIVE! They originally signed Digit to produce four vfx shots for the film's sneak peek at Comic-Con 2007, but the work was so well received that the company's role was expanded to 100 shots throughout the feature film.
The most complex undertaking was a major skydiving sequence that seamlessly unites 35 mm skydiving footage with rear projection and green screen shot using the Genesis camera. Digit also produced key CG elements including a photo-real CG parachute resulting in a believable and intense action experience.
"When approached by Chuck and Mosaic Media Group we jumped at the opportunity to work with them on GET SMART. During the process we had an open line of communication with VFX Supervisor Joe Bauer and VFX Producer Mark Soper, which made the project a success," Offer said. "We couldn't have achieved the level and scope of work without their collective commitment to a truly collaborative process."
This success has translated into Digit being the sole effects house on a soon-to-be released DVD that will satisfy those for whom one GET SMART adventure is not enough.
Based on its feature contribution, Digit's vfx talents were also tapped for two GET SMART promotions, the Subway DOORS commercial via Boston-based agency MMB and a :30 film promo starring Steve Carell for Warner Bros that aired during the NBA playoffs.
