Starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, the live-action retelling of the classic story of a woodcarver who builds a wooden puppet and treats him as his own son is slated to hit the streamer September 2022.
Disney+ has dropped a first look image from its upcoming all-new Pinocchio, set to premiere exclusively on the streaming service this September. Directed by Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis, the live-action film is yet the latest adaptation of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. The film is slated to premiere in September 2022.
Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the woodcarver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his "conscience;" Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is "Honest" John; Academy Award nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman.
Zemeckis’ tale will hit small screens roughly two months before Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion Pinocchio, currently set to hit Netflix in December.
Zemeckis, Derek Hogue, Andrew Miano, Chris Weitz, and Paul Weitz produce, with Jackie Levine, Jack Rapke, Alexandra Derbyshire, and Jeremy Johns serving as executive producers.
VFX, virtual production and visualization studios on the project include Clear Angle Studios, Dimension Studios, DNEG, Framestore, Halon Entertainment, and MPC.
