Holding strong at #2, G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA (Paramount, with vfx by CIS Hollywood, Digital Domain, HPI and Lidar Services) earned $22.5M – down 58%. G.I. JOE has earned $98.7M in its two week haul.
Premiering in the #3 spot, THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE (WB/NL, with vfx by Rhythm and Hues) made $19.2M.
Falling to #4, JULIE & JULIA (Sony, vfx by Brainstorm Digital) brought in $12.4M – down 38% with a total gross of $43.6M.
In the #5 position, G-FORCE (Buena Vista, with vfx by Asylum VFX, Hatch Production and Sony Pictures Imageworks) earned $6.9M -- down 30%. G-FORCE has earned $99M to date.
At a disappointing #6, THE GOODS: LIVE HARD, SELL HARD (Par, vfx by Gary Sanchez Prod.) made a meager $5.3M in its debut week.
At #7, HARRY POTTER & THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE (WB, with vfx by ILM and Double Negative and CEG Media, Cinesite, Foreign Office, Gentle Giant Studios, Kerner Optical, Moving Picture Company, Plowman Craven & Associates, Rising Sun Pictures and The Visual Effects Company) earned $5.1M -- down 42%. HALF-BLOOD PRINCE has made $283.8M since its U.S debut.
Falling to #8 was THE UGLY TRUTH (Sony, with vfx by Furious FX, Gradient Effects, LOOK! Effects, Luma Pictures and Proof) taking in another $4.5M -- down 33%. The romantic comedy has earned a total of $77.5M.
At #9, PONYO (BV, with animation by Studio Ghibli) earned only $3.5M in its first week.
Staying at #10, (500) DAYS OF SUMMER (Fox Searchlight, vfx by Imaginary Forces) earned $3M down 19% with a cume of $17.9M.
