Drafthouse Films picks up North American rights in a deal with Films We Like to Ari Folman’s sci-fi feature, The Congress.
Drafthouse Films has picked up North American rights in a deal with Films We Like to the sci-fi feature The Congress, according to a report by Deadline. A U.S. theatrical and VOD/digital release is planned for 2014, and Films We Like in Toronto will handle Canadian distribution.
Directed by Ari Folman (Waltz With Bashir), The Congress is an experiment in live-action melded with animation adapted from Stanislaw Lem’s sci-fi novel, “The Futurological Congress.”
The film opened the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar at last month’s Cannes Film Festival. Watch the international trailer, below:
The Congress stars Robin Wright, who plays herself as an actress who agrees to be digitized for money, rendering her no longer in control of her own identity, along with Harvey Keitel, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Danny Huston and Paul Giamatti.
