Paris-based Ellipsanime is selected by the French bankruptcy court to purchase the assets of French animation company Moonscoop SA; French company JokeBox acquires Moonscoop France’s 51% share in US-based Moonscoop LLC, formerly Mike Young Productions.
The Commercial Court of Paris has selected Paris-based Ellipsanime to purchase the assets of French animation company Moonscoop SA, according to a report by C21 Media. Moonscoop SA went into administration in July 2013.
Moonscoop’s president of global distribution Lionel Marty reportedly said the court made the decision on Friday and Ellipsanime’s offer of $820,518 beat offers of $341,883 from two competitors: Paris-based production company Millimages and audio/visual investor Capucine.
In its proposal, Ellipsanime will retain two of Moonscoop’s remaining 27 employees. One legal position and one sales and administration position will carry over from Moonscoop’s distribution team. Offers from Millimages and Capucine would have seen higher staff retention numbers.
Part of Media Participations-owned Dargaud Group, Ellipsanime will take over Moonscoop’s library of approximately 1,000 hours of kids content including popular series such as Code Lyoko and Chloe’s Closet.
Over the next month, all creators and producers of Moonscoop’s titles will now be able to exercise their preemption rights over the next month in line with French law.
Also announced by the Paris trade court on Friday, French company JokeBox has acquired Moonscoop France’s 51% share in US-based Moonscoop LLC, formerly Mike Young Productions, and a separate group from Moonscoop France.
