Based on a Central Asian literary classic - the legend of King Gesar and his destined path to greatness - the animated fantasy comes to theaters August 25.
Cineverse has shared an exclusive clip with AWN from the Chinese 3DCG animated epic fantasy Warrior King, inspired by the ancient story of the legendary hero and warrior King Gesar. The film hits theaters August 25.
In the film, King Gesar was born to a divine lineage, destined to become a great hero and ruler. As a young man, the future king was exiled in a realm overrun by menacing demons and monsters. When evil forces threaten his home, he embarks on a heroic journey to save his people and fulfill his destiny as a legendary leader.
The story of Gesar is considered one of Central Asia’s literary classics and was passed down in oral tradition for 1,000 years, as well as literary, poetic, and stage play versions. According to some calculations, its Tibetan iteration may be the most prominent, but it is certainly one of the longest, running to over 100 volumes and a million verses.
In the exclusive clip, Gesar discovers his birth from three divine powers and the path he must follow to fulfill his destiny as “A Worthy King.”
