VFX Supervisor David Bowman and VFX Producer Hannah Dakin will help expand studio’s film and episodic division; company will soon move to a new facility boasting state-of-the-art production servers and workstations to streamline workflow and increase capacity.
In a move to expand and diversify its film and episodic offerings, VFX studio Freefolk has announced two key hires: VFX Supervisor David Bowman and VFX Producer Hannah Dakin. The duo joins the team led by VFX Supervisor Steve Murgatroyd and VFX Executive Producer Meg Guidon.
Bowman has spent the last nine years in Canada working at both MPC and ILM on shows including, The Book of Boba Fett (Disney), The Mandalorian (Disney), and Alien: Covenant (Twentieth Century Fox). Dakin has landed at Freefolk after a stint at Lola. She also has extensive client-side experience as well as expertise in post-VFX. Her credits include Bad Sisters (Apple TV+), Our Living World (Netflix), and The Rig (Amazon).
The VFX studio is wrapping up its busiest year yet with recent credits including Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix) and The Baby (SKY Atlantic HBO). Soon it will open its new studio space in the heart of Spitalfields. The studio states the facility will boast state-of-the-art production servers and workstations that will streamline workflow and increase capacity.
“Our Film & Episodic department has had its best year yet,” said Murgatroyd. “That, coupled with the imminent move to our impressive new studio, means it's the right time to invest in the right senior talent to enable us to grow further.”
“After nine years in Canada working at bigger facilities, the time is right for me to work with an independent company and creative team, who not only produce excellent work but are excellent people, Freefolk are just that,” shared Bowman.
Bowman continued, “With Steve and Meg at the helm, they really are an exceptionally talented team who are adept at finding creative solutions to the most complex of requirements and always without compromise. I can’t wait to get stuck into the exciting projects we have in the pipeline, grow the team further, and increase the slate of award-winning VFX.”
Other studio credits include Cursed (Netflix), which yielded a BAFTA Craft Award, The Third Day (Sky/HBO), Pennyworth Season 2 (Warner Horizon), and The Alienist (Paramount), which garnered an Emmy.
