Staying in the number one spot at the box office this week was THE HANGOVER, bringing in another $32.8M and only dropping about 27 percent. The Warner Bros. film now has a two-week cume of $105.8M.
Also not moving was Disney-Pixar's UP, which stayed a close #2 with $30.7M and a three-week take of $187.4M.
Coming in third was action opener THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 (Sony) with $23.4M. The Denzel Washington-John Travolta starring film has vfx from Asylum VFX and Eye-Spy Productions.
Fox's NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN (vfx from CafeFX, Dac Studios, Giant Studios, Image Engine Design and Pixel Playground) stayed in fourth place in its fourth week in release, earning $9.6M for a total gross of $143.5M.
Fifth place went to Will Ferrell comedy LAND OF THE LOST (Universal, vfx from CafeFX, Gentle Giant Studios, Hammerhead Productions, Rhythm and Hues and Spectral Motion.) with $8.99M and a two-week take of $34.8M.
Nickelodeon's family comedy IMAGINE THAT from Paramount (vfx from Hammerhead Productions) opened low in sixth place with just $5.5M.
Paramount's STAR TREK earned an additional $5.45M for seventh place. In six weeks the reboot, with vfx from ILM, Lola Visual Effects, Evil Eye Pictures, and Svengali Visual Effects, has earned $231.88M.
TERMINATOR SALVATION came in eighth place with $4.8M and in four weeks has done $113.9M (Warner Bros., vfx by ILM, Matte World Digital, Pixel Liberation Front, Proof, Rising Sun Pictures and Stan Winston Studio).
Ninth place went to Sony's ANGELS & DEMONS (vfx by Double Negative, CIS Vancouver, The Moving Picture Co., Plowman Craven & Associates and The Senate Visual Effects) with $4.1M and a five-week cume of $123.2M.
Rounding out the top 10 was Sam Raimi's horror comedy DRAG ME TO HELL (Universal, vfx by ReThink VFX, Michael Kaelin & Associates, Tippett Studio and i.e. Effects) with $3.9M and a three-week gross of $35.2M.
In animated features still in theaters, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS (Paramount/DreamWorks Animation) made $205,122 for a total 12-week cume of $195.2M. CORALINE from Focus Features made another $10,103 and in 19 weeks has earned $75.2M. Lionsgate's BATTLE FOR TERRA earned $94 in two theaters for a seven-week total of $1.6M.
