HBO Sets ‘House of the Dragon’ Debut

More palace intrigue and aerial carnage is just around the corner, as the network officially announces the premiere of its highly touted ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, based on George R. R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood,’ that follows the House Targaryen’s rise to power in Westeros.

It’s finally on the schedule! Before the mad king, before the Baratheon Rebellion, and before Daenerys, Tyrion, and Cersei were playing the Game of Thrones, there was House Targaryen conquering Westeros on the backs of Dragons. Based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 book “Fire & Blood,” HBO’s new 10-episode Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, finally gets a release date: August 21. The show will be available on HBO Max as well.

The series is set 200 years before the events of the Emmy Award-winning GoT fantasy series and tells the tale of the House Targaryen’s 200+ year dynastic rise in Westeros.

This sneak peek gives us little tastes of the high fantasy drama that we’ve come to expect from GoT - sword fights, jousting and political intrigue - so fans can expect a wild ride on the back of this dragon while watching the Targaryen’s claw their way to power through “Fire and Blood.”

The series stars Paddy Considine; Matt Smith; Olivia Cooke; Emma D’Arcy; Steve Toussaint; Eve Best; Sonoya Mizuno; Fabien Frankel; and Rhys Ifans.

Additional cast includes Milly Alcock; Bethany Antonia; Phoebe Campbell; Emily Carey; Harry Collett; Ryan Corr; Tom Glynn-Carney; Jefferson Hall; David Horovitch; Wil Johnson; John Macmillan; Graham McTavish; Ewan Mitchell; Theo Nate; Matthew Needham; Bill Paterson; Phia Saban; Gavin Spokes; and Savannah Steyn.

VFX houses on the series include MPC Episodic and Pixomondo.

House of the Dragon is co-created and executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who is also the co-showrunner and writer.  Miguel Sapochnik serves as the co-showrunner / director of the pilot and additional episodes / executive producer. Sara Hess serves as executive producer and writer; Vince Gerardis, Ron Schmidt, and Jocelyn Diaz serve as executive producers. Directors include Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel, and Greg Yaitanes, who also co-executive produces.
