Hornet Animates MTV Promos

Commercial film and design company Hornet Inc. recently completed INSTRUCTOART for MTV, a series of eight promos that will premier during the MTV Video Music Awards on August 28, 2003.

To create the spots, Hornet creative director Eng San Kho worked in close collaboration with the INSTRUCTOART creator Matt Vescovo. "The biggest challenge was figuring out how to best animate the spots and still stay true to its humor," said Kho.

"INSTRUCTOART combines the art of learning with the art of art and documents the trivial habits and daily customs that humans have developed throughout history," added Vescovo.

Hornet used After Effects, Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator for the promos.

"The spots stand out because they are really quiet," continued Kho. "With the constant noise and chaotic nature of MTV they create a moment of silence."

"Hornet has been tremendous with accommodations and quality of work," said Michael Bellino, producer of on-air promos, MTV. "They understood everything about the idea from length and style, to humor and timing. Hornet worked with the simplicity of the spots and avoided over-animating them and masking the humor."

With studios in Los Angeles, New York and an affiliated partner in New Zealand, Hornet (www.hornetinc.com) works with a roster of leading artists and directors to create computer animation, visual effects, motion graphics and live-action film.
