Both DC Films co-CEO James Gunn and the star have hinted heavily at the introduction of the badass interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter into the new DCU, with the actor likely assuming the role.
Despite the potential canning of the Snyderverse, Aquaman actor Jason Momoa seems surprisingly elated in interviews and on Twitter. With projects being cancelled and the entire future of the DCU in question, it seems that not all upcoming changes are bad.
In an interview ET Canada (via Variety), Momoa was excited for the James Gunn and Peter Safran DC Studios takeover, stating, “There are a lot of cool things that will be coming up. One of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch. So, stay tuned!” The actor has been vocal in the past of coveting the Lobo role, one that he seems quite suited for. Further stirring the pot, Gunn shared an image of Lobo on his Mastodon page with the caption “Glad to be here.”
Lobo was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, and first appeared in DC Comics’ Omega Men #3 (June 1983). An alien hailing from the utopian planet of Czarnia, Lobo is a badass interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. A spacefaring merc sounds very similar to the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which Gunn directed. It seems the superhero studio ship-jumper is sticking to familiar territory if this proves true.
In the meantime, Arthur Curry is still coming to the big screen. Catch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in theaters December 25, 2023.
