Jeepers Creeps To Number One

The new horror film JEEPERS CREEPERS, with primary visual effects by E=MC2 and Max Ink Café LLC, debuted at number one earning $15.8M over the four-day Labor Day weekend. RUSH HOUR 2, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, held the number two spot for the fourth consecutive week with a four-day take of $11.8M bringing its total gross to $198.9M. Holding steady in fifth place is the road comedy RAT RACE, with animated opening titles by Wild Brain, which has grossed $37.8M after 17 days. The comedy JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, with primary visual effects by Digital Research Lab, MetroLight Studios and Tigar Hare Studios, fell to eighth place dropping off 42% from its debut and collecting $6.4M for a $21.9M total. Just staying in the top ten is CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN, with primary visual effects by Double Negative, which grossed $4.1M in its third weekend lifting the romantic dramas total to $19.8M. Two films dropped out of the top ten this weekend. PLANET OF THE APES, with primary visual effects by ILM, earned $3.6M over four days pushing its cume to $173M. JOHN CARPENTERS GHOSTS OF MARS, with primary visual effects by Hunter Gratzner Industries, Inc., OConnor FX and ShadowCaster Inc., crumbled in its second weekend taking in a paltry $2.1M giving the sci-fi action flick just $7.3M total. In a holiday weekend re-expansion, Buena Vista put the animated action film ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE back into wide release and collected $820,000 giving it an $82.3M total to date. Warner Bros. disappointing animated-live action comedy OSMOSIS JONES is poised to drop out of the top 20. Figures for the Labor Day weekend were not yet available, but as of August 26, 2001 the film had earned only $12.3M total, averaging just over $600 per screen.
