Jennifer Coolidge Boards ‘Minecraft’ Live-Action Feature

‘The White Lotus’ star joins Warner Bros., Vertigo, and Legendary’s adaptation of Mojang’s best-selling video game, which has yet to secure a title, but is set to hit theaters April 4, 2025.

Jennifer Coolidge has come onboard for the upcoming live-action Minecraft feature adaptation, reports Deadline. ‘The White Lotus’ star joins the cast that includes Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda franchise, Jumanji franchise), Danielle Brooks (Peacemaker), Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Mozart in the Jungle), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Emma Myers (Wednesday). Production began in New Zealand late last year.

Minecraft is currently in development with Warner Bros. in partnership with Legendary Pictures and Vertigo. Jared Hess directs, although a writer has yet to be announced; Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, and Markus Persson are credited as writers on IMDb.

The game Minecraft, first released by Sweden’s Mojang Studios in 2011 and purchased by Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014, immerses players in a low-res, pixelated “sandbox” simulation where they can use blocks to build entire worlds. The thematic adaptation follows a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers who set out to save the Overworld after a malevolent Ender Dragon blazes a path of destruction.

Mary Parent, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Roy Lee produce. Jill Messick is receiving a posthumous producing credit. Lydia Winters and Vu Bui of Mojang will also produce alongside Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, and Jon Spaihts, who serve as executive producers.

While it's super early in production, we know Dan Lemmon and Fiona Crawford are listed as VFX supervisors, and Halon Entertainment is working on previs.

Minecraft is expected to premiere on April 4, 2025.
