Jonathan Entwistle Boards Disney+ ‘Willow’ Series

After previous director Jon Chu stepped down in January, the ‘The End of the F***ing World’ director has taken up the mantle, though production remains halted due to COVID-19 lockdowns in the UK.

Our Nelwyn sorcerer has been saved! Disney+’s new fantasy series Willow has been on hold since previous director Jon Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) stepped down, just as the UK enacted new COVID-19 lockdowns, effectively halting all production. While the lockdown continues, the project has found a new director in Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World, I Am Not Okay With This), who is no stranger to strong female leads. This is very important, as the series will center around three females attempting to save a prince.

Entwistle joins Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Wendy Mericle (Arrow) as executive producers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Entwistle stated “I’m excited to be going on this journey and working with Jon and Wendy to create something that is both deeply rooted in that original film and also a fresh, funny and charming addition to the beloved story. To be able to play within the world so painstakingly crafted by Ron back in '88 is a dream come true for me."

Production for Willow is set to begin this spring in Wales, depending on a greenlight from the British government.
