Klik! 2014 to Spotlight Gender Stereotypes

With a theme of ‘Boys, Girls & Beyond!’, the seventh edition of the KLIK! Animation Festival includes six days of animated shorts from around the globe, master classes, premieres and parties.

The seventh edition of the KLIK! Animation Festival kicks off in less than two months, taking place November 4-9 at the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam.

Over 1,500 animated shorts from 70 countries were submitted to the festival, with the very best selected to compete for the KLIK! Awards, including the Amsterdam Audience Award.

The theme for this year is Boys, Girls & Beyond!, which seeks to go beyond the traditional representations of gender such as the tough Popeye the Sailor or the sexy Jessica Rabbit. Think instead of noteworthy characters like The Tick’s Bi-Polar Bear, My Ex-Girlfriend Never Farted, and The Dog Who Was a Cat Inside:

KLIK! also presents Light Forms, a film program co-presented by EYE that includes installations and light animation workshops.

In addition to the short film competition, the Boys, Girls & Beyond themed program and Light Forms, KLIK! 2014 will also present several feature premières and avant-premières, a special noon screening for kids, workshops and talks. And of course Midnight Madness is back again with a collection of the most bizarre and quirky animations of the moment.

Head on over to the KLIK! Facebook page or www.klikamsterdam.nl for more information on this year’s programs.
