Celebrating the festival’s 10th anniversary, the event will include four short film programs featuring award-winning and emerging talent in Japanese animation; highlights include Koji Yamamura’s ‘Water Dreams/Dreams into Drawing.’
The Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival originally launched in November 2010 at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, UK; the festival screens the best in Japanese animation and culture to a wide audience. On October 24-25, the festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary with two days of virtual animation fun.
The event will feature three Zoom meetings and four short film programs featuring award-winning film makers and emerging talents from various universities across Japan. Highlights include the latest works from Koji Yamamura (Water Dreams/Dreams Into Drawing); Shin Hosokawa (Dino!); Makiko Sukikara (Deep Sea's Rainbow) and Miho Yata, an animator known for her style of using knitted materials in her work. Students films will cover a wide range of topics and provide a glimpse of a new generation of emerging talent.
The Zoom events will be hosted by Miho Yata, Fusako Yusaki, a veteran claymation animator, and Chie Arai, animator, illustrator, and flip book extraordinaire!
