Nickelodeon announced today they will develop their hit animated series DORA THE EXPLORER into a live-action prime-time TV movie.
The movie will feature Dora, the 10-year-old Latina heroine in a new adventure enhanced by CG special effects.
"Dora will be a little older for her high stakes live-action adventure, which we think will be very exciting for our pre-school audience, as well as kids and their families who have grown up watching the show over the last 7 years," said Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon and MTV Networks Kids and Family Group.
Johnson told the NEW YORK POST that a national casting call will be held for Dora, who will be Latina and bilingual like her animated counterpart, but older 10 to 13 years old.
Dora's animal co-stars, Boots the monkey and Swiper the fox, might be CG, but Johnson said they hadn't decided.
DORA THE EXPLORER is a play-along animated adventure series.
In each episode, Dora teaches a Spanish word or phrase to the viewers and then asks them to use it to solve a problem and forge ahead. Ultimately, Dora and Boots, triumph, and the story always ends with a "We Did It!" anthem.
