Media I.M. Brings Russian Series into Thailand

Five-title animation package of more than 80 hours of children’s content destined for Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.

London-based content distribution company Media I.M. has licensed six of its children’s properties to JKN Global Media for transmission on Bright TV and JKN Global in Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. The deal was announced by the boutique distributor’s co-founders, Maria Ufland and Irina Nazarenko.

In the countdown to this week’s Asia TV Forum, JNK Global Media has acquired all three seasons of Kikoriki (104 x 6.5 mins/109 x 6.5 mins/52 x 11 mins), Petersburg Animation Studio’s flagship series about the spherical inhabitants of the world of Kikoriki. The package deal also includes another hit Petersburg Animation Studio property: the animated sci-fi series Pin-Code (51 x 13 mins), which follows the adventures of a penguin inventor called Pin and features most of the characters first introduced in Kikoriki.

Other titles headed for Bright TV and JKN Global under the deal include The Pooches (130 x 4.5 mins), Melnitsa Animation Studio’s CGI animation about a family of lively and loveable dogs that has become one  of Russia’s most popular evening children’s show; also from Melnitsa pre-school  TV and YouTube sensation Moonzy (440 x 4.5 mins), which centres on a small fluffy creature who falls to Earth from the Moon, makes new friends and learns about his new world; Studio Nebo’s adventure comedy animation The Bubbles (52 x 6.5 mins, which invites kids into the world of a goofy professor called Floyd and his nephew Marty who live in an amazing fantasy world of  the Bubbles; and Studio Atria’s animated comedy Robodz (15 x 11 mins) which tells the story about the life of robots who ended up making Mars their new home.

“To sell our catalogue into South East Asia on the brink of ATF is brilliant timing for us,” Ufland said. “Asia has a huge and growing appetite for the sort of fresh, high quality family-friendly content in which we specialise, which centres on comedy and universal stories . This deal brings us a big step closer to gaining a firm foothold in one of the world’s most buoyant markets and we are very happy that kids in these countries will have a chance to enjoy these great shows.”
