Michelle Rodriguez and stage veteran Stephen Lang have joined the cast of James Cameron's performance capture space epic, AVATAR, reports VARIETY. The duo joins Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Wes Studi and CCH Pounder. The film is shooting in Los Angeles and will move in October to Wellington, New Zealand, where visual effects supervisor Weta Digital is based.
Rodriguez will play an ex-marine pilot while Lang has the role of a veteran Marine Corps colonel, who goes to planet Pandora to become the leader of its soldiers. Cameron first met Lang when he auditioned for ALIENS for a role he didn't receive.
Lightstorm's Cameron and Jon Landau are producing.
The digital 3-D feature is set to arrive in theaters on May 22, 2009.
