The Mill teams with agency AMV/BBDO and production company Stink to create “One Day” for Cancer Research UK.
This poignant film depicts the life of a young woman moving through childhood, adolescence and then into motherhood as the disease starts to take hold. The Mill's 3D Animation team, led by Francois Roisin, worked to create an effective portrayal of the devastating impact of cancer within the body, by way of creating the microscopic cancer cells seen rapidly multiplying over time.
“Cancer Research UK was a great opportunity for the team here at The Mill, because we practically had carte blanche in terms of design and storytelling,” Roisin explains. “Our design team worked closely together in the early stages with the director Yann and the agency to storyboard and design the shots, to ensure they would be seamlessly integrated into the edit. Also in knowing that Yann was shooting with 35mm film, helped us in defining a soft and warm look to the CGI.”
"With the film being shot on 35mm, Yann and I had the rare opportunity to give this film the classic and timeless filmic presence it deserves,” adds Mill colorist James Bamford.
The spot is part of an integrated campaign that features the Cancer Research UK “One Day” manifesto across TV, print, radio, online and in cinemas.
