Ntropic Brings Epic Look and Feel to New Marriott Campaign

Ntropic partners with mcgarrybowen to create a humorous take on the adventures of today’s business travelers in ‘Travel for Work,’ a multi-spot campaign for Marriott.

Visual effects studio Ntropic recently teamed up with ad agency mcgarrybowen to create “Travel for Work,” a multi-spot campaign with a humorous take on just some of the epic adventures faced by today’s business travelers, and the comforts awaiting them at Courtyard Marriott hotels. Ntropic collaborated on a wide variety of visual effects storytelling elements in all four spots of the campaign, including 3D matte paintings, screen composites, and background cleanup including rigging, logo, and rain removal.

For “Viking Ship,” in which a languishing Norseman pontificates on the qualities of his wine to a ship full of hard-rowing Vikings, the Ntropic visual effects team created multiple 3D ships for the spot’s wide shots. In “Cattle Drive,” Ntropic created tens of thousands of CG cattle to populate an epic Western scenario, while “Yukon” required intricate sky replacements and the photo-real addition of falling CG snow.

Each of the spots ends up showing its protagonist enjoying the comforts of a Courtyard Marriott hotel, and each story is supported by seamless VFX work. For the Courtyard shot, Ntropic created a background matte painting that included a fully CG cityscape and tree-filled park. The Ntropic team also removed excess foreground elements such as light poles and signage.
