Multi-Academy Award-winning digital production company Digital Domain has added depth to its roster with the recent hiring of veteran visual effects supervisor Carey Villegas.

Venice, CA — May 18, 2011 — Multi-Academy Award-winning digital production company Digital Domain has added depth to its roster with the recent hiring of veteran visual effects supervisor Carey Villegas. Villegas received a 2010 Academy Award nomination for visual effects on Alice in Wonderland and is credited on more than 30 features.
“Carey is respected throughout the industry for his leadership, creativity and technical expertise,” said Digital Domain CEO Cliff Plumer. “He has worked his way to the top, experiencing every aspect of visual effects, stereo 3D and digital production, and he is a great, hands-on supervisor who is highly effective working with his crews.”
Throughout his 19-year career, Villegas has been a supervisor for directors including Michael Bay, Robert Zemeckis, James Cameron and Tim Burton. On Alice in Wonderland he oversaw all visual effects production on more than 1700 shots, from pre-production and photography to final compositing and stereo 3D conversion, including the design and implementation of the giant-headed Red Queen. Villegas spent 11 years at Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he was a visual effects supervisor on Cast Away, Hancock, Bad Boys II, The Forgotten, I Spy and more. His new post marks a return to Digital Domain, where the veteran visual effects supervisor worked as a compositing supervisor early in his career, on films including Fight Club, What Dreams May Come and Titanic.

Carey Villegas is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Visual Effects Society, the International Animated Film Society, and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
