The 2006 Cartoon d'Or has been awarded to Joanna Quinn of the U.K. for her short, DREAMS & DESIRES: FAMILY TIES. The hysterically funny 2D short with its reality show camera angle point-of-view is sweeping international animation contesta, racking up wins at Ottawa and Cartoon Forum this past weekend, as well as three awards at Annecy and two at Zabreb earlier this year.
The Cartoon d'Or winner receives 15,000 euros from MEDIA as a pre-production aid to begin a more ambitious project like a feature film or a TV special. The prize was awarded on Sept. 23, 2006, at the closing night of the 17th Cartoon Forum held in Pau, France.
The other nominees were:* HISTÓRIA TRÁGICA COM FINAL FELIZ, by Regina Pessoa (Portugal/France/Canada)* NOCTURNE, by Guillaume Delaunay (France)* OLIS CHANCE, by Saschka Unseld and Johannes Weiland (Germany)* OVERTIME, by Oury Atlan, Thibaut Berland and Damien Ferrié (France)
Quinn was also nominated for the Cartoon d'Or in 1998 for her FAMOUS FRED.
