Rainbow Signs String of New Deals for ‘Mia and me’

Rainbow and Lucky Punch announce a raft of new international television deals for the hybrid live action and CGI animated series, Mia and me.

Leading animation studio Rainbow and co-production partner Lucky Punch GmbH/M4e have announced a raft of new broadcasting deals for hit series Mia and me.

The award-winning show is an original and innovative hybrid of live action and CGI animation that combines fantasy, adventure and comedy. The storyline chronicles the adventures of 12-year old Mia as she juggles her life in the real world with another role in the magical kingdom of Centopia, where she turns into a pretty elf who becomes the guardian of the land’s unicorns.

In addition to the recent launch on Nickelodeon in the UK in January, and on Clan TVE in Spain last week, the new TV partners on board are Gulli in France, where the show is airing with amazing ratings, Gloob in Brazil where the show is set to launch on April 14th, Eleven in Australia where the launch will be late May and Nickelodeon in the US with launch set in April.

Mia and me mixes high production values with funny, exciting and original scripts, which makes it very popular with audiences and attractive to broadcasters,” says Luana Perrero, Head of Sales, TV Rainbow Group. “We are delighted to be welcoming all these respected broadcasters to the fold and I’m sure Mia and me will prove as big a hit in France, Australia, the US and Brazil as it has in so many territories across the world.”

From France, Caroline Cochaux, Head of Programs, Kids & Family Channels, Lagardère Active adds, “According to our new animation brands strategy and our block especially dedicated to girls, Girls Power creation, we are so pleased with the strong performance of Mia and me. The popular characters give all their power to the very high level animation and our audience is responding really well to it.”

From Brasil, Paula Taborda dos Guaranys, Gloob's Head of Content & Programming adds, "Mia and me has high quality and production values, both in live-action and in animation. We believe in its potential to be a great hit and that our audience will feel right at home in the world of Centopia.”

From Australia, The Head of Children’s Programming, Cherrie Bottger said, “Toasted tv on Channel Eleven, is delighted to bring the fantasy, live action & CGI adventure, Mia and me to our Australian audience adding another country to an already expansive worldwide group of young viewers.”

The show is already a big global hit, with more than 70 broadcasters in over 80 territories having snapped up the first series. This popularity has led Rainbow and Lucky Punch to produce a second series, which is due for release in late 2014/early 2015 and a feature film, which is planned for a theatrical release in 2016.

The property is also a merchandiser’s dream thanks to the collectability of the characters. A full range of merchandise will launch this year in established territories, including an exciting toy line from international toy partner Mattel. Other prestigious partners include Ravensburger, Egmont, Unilever, Nestle and Panini.

Mia and me is a co - production of Lucky Punch GmbH – a joint venture between M4e AG and Gerhard Hahn, Rainbow, Canada’s March Entertainment, as well as ZDF German Television Network.
